Francine McClure

 

From Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Francine McClure has been composing since the 1970s and still at 78 years of age, with new compositions that never cease to amaze. In 1999, she released “Climène”, an album featuring traditional songs collected by Acadian researcher Laurent Comeau, and in 2023 she released her EP “La ballade de John Milne”, under the direction of sound producer Mike Trask with Maggie Savoie on guitars. Francine's Acadian-folk style takes us on a journey from Louisiana to Cocagne and her trio with Robert Cormier on bass and Michel Chiasson on leads has been proving its worth since 2022 at Acadian gatherings and other festive celebrations.

 

Sylvie Boulianne

Originally from Baie Sainte-Marie, Nova Scotia, Sylvie has been rocked by the sound of the waves, and the folk and traditional music played by those around her. She completed her Bachelor's degree in Classical Singing at the Université de Moncton in 2014. Active in professional choirs or amateur music groups, Sylvie has always pursued a musical activity in parallel with her various jobs and her activity as a graphic designer. Eventually finding the right people to collaborate with, she recently dared to unveil the compositions she had been slowly accumulating. She released her first solo EP in April 2023.

 

Pallmer

Pallmer is a chamber-pop duo born from late night improv sessions during a particularly snowy winter in Fredericton, New Brunswick.  Using a cello and viola, the duo’s music melds their love of songwriting with their classical training, using loopers and guitar pedals to expand the possibilities of their wooden instruments.  Pallmer’s most recent release, “Quiet Clapping” won Recording of the Year at the 2021 Prix MNB Awards.  The collection of five songs were recorded in a large dance studio at the back of a church-converted-to-arts centre, taking advantage of its natural resonance, and embracing the occasional noises from old water heating.  Pallmer released a limited edition, double-header vinyl run of  “Quiet Clapping” & their 2019 release, “Grass Garden'' on April 9th, 2022.

The band has taken a slow but steady approach to releasing music, and after two EPs and two years of writing, this past fall Pallmer returned to the studio to record their first LP “Swimming.”   The duo worked with JUNO award-winning producer Joshua van Tassel, squirrelling away for five days at his secluded home studio to record the album.  Their collaboration produced a tender collection of 9 songs that interweaves layers of strings, bass, synthesizers, and marimba-like percussion.  The album is slated to be released in 2023.

Freya Milliken

​

Freya Milliken is an emerging singer-songwriter from Dorchester, NB, now based in the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia. She has been gaining momentum in the maritimes the past few years and will soon be graduating with a Bachelor of Music degree from Acadia University. Freya's music is soulful and heartfelt, combining perceptive lyrics with tasteful accompaniments on guitar, inspired by artists such as Tracy Chapman, dodie and Fleetwood Mac. Freya's latest single "Wholeheartedly" is lush with strings, vocal harmonies, and yearning-like melodies, resulting from her time at Acadia. Available on all streaming platforms.
